Exercise Training in Women with Heart Disease: A RCT
Principal Investigator: Dr. Jennifer Reed
The Exercise Physiology and Cardiovascular Health Lab at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute is currently recruiting women living with heart disease for a research study which seeks to compare two exercise training programs on fitness and mental health.
Participants will have health measures taken (such as height, weight, blood pressure, and body composition), undergo exercise tests, and complete questionnaires at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. They will then be randomly assigned to one of two 12-week virtual exercise training programs (moderate-intensity continuous exercise training group, or high-intensity interval training group). The exercise sessions will occur 3x/week, be free of charge and conducted virtually. The health measures will be repeated at the end of the exercise intervention.
We hope this study will provide valuable information on the role of physical activity in improving clinical, exercise and mental health outcomes in women with heart disease.
