Biography
My name is Tara D’Ignazio, and I am presently a PGY-4 in Adult Cardiology at the University of Montreal. My professional experience is anchored in my core values: advancing medical practice through pedagogy, and propelling cardiology into a domain which represents all of its patients and professional members. I recently helped organize the CCC’s Trainee Sessions as a member of their General Track. Within this role, I developed and moderated the Women in Cardiac Sciences: Breaking Invisible Barriers, which provided an evidence-based approach to the unique experience and biases faced by women with careers in cardiac sciences. I am presently a member of the Montreal Heart Institute’s Simulation Optimization Committee, as well as their ultrasound teaching committee. I have developed and submitted cardiac critical care cases to the American College of Cardiology. My past experiences include being the Vice President for Medical Specialties with the Association des médecins résidents de Montréal, where I collaborated with high-level faculty members to provide training on implicit bias in cardiology to medical students within the formal curriculum through an evidence-based approach. During medical school, I developed and implemented a Pre-Departure Training with UNESCO for the world’s largest medical exchange program to tackle issues of cultural competency and cultural safety. While this might seem orthogonal to my interests in critical care and tertiary cardiology, this is the vision I aspire to bring to my future practice - advancing cardiology for all patients using pedagogical innovation.
I believe I bring to the table experience in curriculum development, but more importantly, my passion for equity and diversity and my vision of cardiac sciences which treats all of its patients with an optimal level of care.
