Biography

Dr. Maria Agustina Lopez Laporte is a resident in Adult Cardiology at the Ottawa Heart Institute (PGY4). She completed her medical degree and internal medicine residency training at McGill University, in Montreal, Quebec.

She is passionate about women’s cardiovascular health across the lifespan. Her interests include curriculum development and creation of educational platforms to standardize and strengthen the training of cardiology residents on women’s cardiovascular health. She is also interested in deepening our understanding of cardiovascular health and disease in pregnancy, and in creating comprehensive cardiovascular care programs that are tailored to the specific needs of this population. Dr. Lopez Laporte is also closely tuned to the unique cardiovascular needs of women before, during, and after cancer therapy, and is a fierce advocate for adequate prevention and follow up of cardiovascular complications of chemotherapy and anti-hormonal therapy.

Born and raised in Montevideo, Uruguay, and having lived most of her adult life in Montreal, Quebec, Dr. Lopez Laporte enjoys learning new languages and engaging with people from different communities. She recognizes the gap that often exists in the access to care of women from visible minority groups and strives to provide care and conduct research that is culturally safe. In her spare time, she prioritizes family time, yoga, and reading.
