Biography

Dr. Karen Tran is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Tran is the co-director of the Vancouver General Hospital Hypertension Clinic and is an American Hypertension Society Clinical Specialist in Hypertension. She also works as an Obstetrical Medicine specialist at BC Women’s Hospital. She serves on Hypertension Canada’s national guideline committee for resistant hypertension and blood pressure measurements. She co-authored BCHypertension Guidelines and HypertensionCanada 2020 and Resistant Hypertension guidelines. She is a clinician-scientist in health services research at Centre for Advancing Health Outcomes. Her research interests include use of digital health technology for hypertension management, including pregnant people. She was recently awarded a CIHR grant to conduct a randomized controlled trial using home blood pressure telemonitoring and pharmacy case management compared to usual control for patients discharged from the emergency department with high blood pressure.
