Biography

Heather Ebbs was an editor, indexer, writer and teacher for almost 40 years, working with book publishers, universities and colleges, and such clients as Health Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada, the Canadian Medical Association, the Canadian Nurses Association and many others. During her paid career, Heather was highly active in a number of volunteer roles in her professional organizations, including as president of the Freelance Editors Association of Canada and the Indexing Society of Canada, both of which have honoured her with life memberships.

Heather retired in 2019 after having a heart attack caused by spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD). Testing at that time also identified an earlier, previously undiagnosed SCAD. Since then, Heather has transferred her volunteer energies to women’s heart health as a trained community advocate, a peer leader in the UOHI’s Women@Heart Program and a co-administrator of a Facebook/Meta group for women and men with SCAD.
