Biography

Chinelo Iwegim is a dynamic physician, community mobilizer and health advocate with 9 years experience as a physician in general practice and pathology specialties having practiced in hospital and community settings as well as 4 years experience in increasing responsibilities in various allied health and community outreach roles.

As a young migrant from Africa 4 years ago, Chinelo has demonstrated her capacity for self-development and learning. In addition to her Medicine/Surgery MBBS Degree, she has gained certification in Infection Prevention and Control from the University of British Columbia, passed the Medical Council of Canada’s Qualifying Examination I and the NAC OSCE, gaining the appellation of Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada. This is in addition to her Masters in Health Planning and Management, certifications in Leadership and Management in Health, Clinical Management of HIV/AIDS and Molecular Pathology.

A strong advocate of youth and women, Chinelo serves in volunteer capacities in several organizations as a Co-founder and Board Director of Thrive4Blacks Community Services Society, Newcomer Mentor with Options Community Services and in the past as the Assistant Secretary of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria as well as a volunteer physician providing general practice consultations in church clinics.

This wide range of exposure and knowledge relays itself in the global, cognitive and practical skills Chinelo shares while working with others. In her role as an Infection Prevention and Control Practitioner with Fraser Health Authority, she provides a supportive atmosphere for colleagues by identifying needs/gaps, proffering solutions and driving the work in the various working groups on policy/ procedure development and surveillance in which she is involved.

Chinelo is a mother of three (3) amazing young kids, married to Solomon- a Business Account Manager with RBC, sings with the African choir in her local church and is a lover of music, dancing and nature.
